GIT Executives Participate in FACETS 2026 in Colombo, Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka

Mr. Sumed Prasongpongchai, Director General of the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization), or GIT, together with Mr. Thanong Leelawattanasuk, Deputy Director for Technical Affairs, attended FACETS 2026, an international gem and jewelry exhibition held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. On this occasion, the Director General of GIT was honored to deliver the opening remarks alongside Hon. Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, and other key figures in Sri Lanka’s colored gemstone industry. His speech emphasized Thailand’s and GIT’s pivotal role in strengthening the gem and jewelry industries of both countries, while promoting collaboration and sustainable development within the sector.

During the event, GIT executives engaged in discussions with senior representatives from government agencies, private organizations, and industry associations, including the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, National Gem and Jewelry Authority, and Sri Lanka Gem and Jewelry Association. These meetings focused on exchanging information, exploring policy perspectives, and identifying practical approaches to foster international cooperation and long-term development in the gem and jewelry industry.

In addition, on January 3 and 4, 2026, GIT was invited to deliver expert presentations on the topics “Sustainable Practices in the Gem and Jewelry Industry” and “Evolving Challenges in the Detection of Treatments in Ruby and Sapphire.” Both sessions attracted significant attention from participants, reflecting global recognition of GIT’s expertise and leadership in advancing knowledge and sustainable practices in the international gem and jewelry sector.In addition, the Director General of GIT served as a speaker in a session titled “Sustainable Practices in the Gem and Jewelry Industry,” which attracted strong interest from participants. The session reflected the international recognition of GIT’s expertise, leadership, and active role in advancing sustainable practices within the global gem and jewelry industry.
